Each February, musicians from around the world come to Rochester to audition for a coveted spot at the Eastman School of Music. While the level of competition for spots is high, the goal is to make the experience a positive one for those who come to audition.Unlike most music schools where an applicant might come for a brief audition, tour and then leave, applicants to programs at Eastman will spend an entire day at the school. The audition is just one small part of that experience. Students will also have an opportunity to meet current Eastman students and faculty, experience many of the facilities and practice rooms and get a more complete impression of the school as well as allowing Eastman to get to know them.As current Eastman students will attest, it's a very different experience from the typical application and audition project at any other music school.

It's part of what makes Eastman unique, in addition to the high quality of the faculty, facilities and opportunities available to students, it's a very close knit community. While striving for the highest level of musical achievement, the environment is also a supportive one, something that applicants experience from that very first day when they set foot inside the school for their audition.
