Republika, page 5The 2015 Joint Entrance Test for State Universities (SBMPTN) Committee Chairman Rochmat Wahab said the 2015 SBMPTN had been transparently carried out. The number of participants has increased by 4.31 percent from 664,509 last year to 693,185 participants this year. The test participants who apply for Bidikmisi Program has also increased by 12.07 percent from 80,919 in 2014 to 90,686 participants this year.Rochmat believed that participants who passed the test would be successful during their study period in universities. This is because the SBMPTN test standard was designed to predict someone who passed the test to be capable of pursuing education in universities.Rochmat asserted that this year the number of poor student registrations had also increased. However, it was not supported yet by supportive government policies, for instance related to the single tuition fee (UKT) implementation.Rochmat added by implementing the UKT, students need not to pay the entrance fee in the initial semester.

As a consequent, they must pay higher tuition fees in each semester which will burden poor students. Prior to the UKT implementation, tuition fee calculation was more pro-poor students since they pay the entrance fee in the initial semester. Subsequently, tuition fee in each semester was cheaper.

Link.

Tempo.coThe process of 2015 New Student Admissions (PPDB) created confusion among parents. Education activist group for example, received contacts in the 200s from residents during the process of online school registration. In Bandung, West Java, Jawa Barat, activist from Parents’ Forum Dwi Subawanto said most parents asked about the system and how to register. He noted several problems faced by parents related to the registration policy and its implementation in school. For example, in the first choice, students are free to choose a school, whereas the second choice should be in the sub-district area of the student’s domicile. In fact, its implementation is not in line, the rule of second choice was not valid.Coordinator of Education Awareness Society Movement, Hary Hariadi Santoni received many similar complaints. Another problem is the out-of-town quota which is felt to shift students from within the city in their academic path.

There is also a report of resignation of an underprivileged student because he was considered to be from a well-to-do family. Those who feared criminal sanctions from the police finally pulled out their applications.Until the underprivileged student admissions announcement last 29 June, Sukarna, one of the parents, had not obtained certainty whether or not his child could go to school in a state junior high school in Bandung City. The statement letter of being underprivileged was refused by the school.Sukarna’s child was “thrown” to SMP Negeri 1 which is very far from the sub-district of his domicile. All he knew was according to the Mayoral Regulation, a transfer to another state school must be within one sub-district. He still hoped the complaint officer at the office of Bandung City Education Agency would be able to get a seat for his child in a state school. Sukarna claimed he could not afford to put his child in a private school.Link. Koran Sindo, halaman 4Sebanyak 121.653 siswa berhasil lulus Seleksi Bersama Masuk Perguruan Tinggi Negeri (SBMPTN 2015.

Sebagian kasus ditangani kepolisan. Posted in Tagged.

Kompas, page 12As many as 121,653 new prospective students have been declared to have passed the 2015 State Higher Education Entrance Joint Selection (SBMPTN) followed by 74 state universities across Indonesia. However, there is a quota of 4,311 people spread in 207 study programs not fulfilled/ met.Rochmat Wahab, General Chairman of the SBMPTN 2015 Central Committee said the quota through the written SBMPTN path was not met due to a lack of interested parties. If there had been interest, it could have been a second or third choice, while the participant had been accepted in the first or second choice. Nevertheless, the quota would be utilized by the respective state universities (PTN) through independent selection whose quota is a maximum of 20 percent of capacity. In 2015, SBMPTN registrants totaled 693,185 people or increasing 4.3 percent from last year. Whereas applicants of Bidikmisi Scholarship totaled 90,686 people, but those who passed SBMPTN was 21,593 people.Rochmat said the selection committee took action against various efforts at fraud. Some of the cases were handled by the police. The committee utilized information and communications technology to detect fraud, for example, the presence of the same participant or a suspicious answer pattern.Meanwhile, Ainun Naim, Secretary General of Ministry of Research, Technology, and Higher Education appreciated that the implementation of selection went well.

PTN entrance selection should be done properly and objectively to ensure that prospective new students meet the academic criteria.

Kompas, page 11, Saturday, November 21To guarantee the quality of early childhood education (PAUD), every institution should be accredited. However, out of a total of 190,161 PAUD institutions already accredited, the majority are kindergartens (TK), i.e.: 31,475 institutions.

Such conditions depict there are still more institutions whose equipment and infrastructure conditions and the quality of their teacher competency is not yet in accordance with the standard.Director of PAUD Development Ministry of Education and Culture, Ella Yulaelawati announced, from a total of 588,475 educators/teachers for PAUD, most, i.e. 289,762 people are still SMA graduates. There are also SMP graduates, i.e.: 22,972 people. While educators who are already S-1 graduates are only 196,181 people. The latest study of Education Sector Analytical and Capacity Development Partnership (ACDP) states, there are still many nonformal PAUD institutions not capable of meeting all eight standards set in Minister of Education and Culture Regulation Number 137 Year 2014 on PAUD National Standard. In order to provide quality learning, PAUD teachers should have personal skills, commitment, and affection towards children rather than merely formal qualifications.Tedjawati, from the Center of Education and Culture Policy Research Kemdikbud said, in the meantime, the educational backgrounds of educators in PAUD still could be understood/tolerated because the process of competency improvement is also underway. For now, what is important is the commitment of the educators.Financing model for PAUD is considered complex. Public investment has helped PAUD development, but not entirely on target to increasing equality.

The ACDP study states the current financing model tends to support PAUD centers that could already finance its institution and obtain public support in training. Actually, operational support should be provided to PAUD centers that are less developed and of low capacity. Republika, page 5Parents who want to teach reading, writing and counting (calistung) to their children at early ages of the children must rethink since it, according to experts, can do harm to children’s brain order.Child development expert at Airlangga University DR Dr Ahmad Suryawan SpA(K) warned parents not to teach calistung before the children entered elementary school or already reached seven years old.

Teaching calistung to children prematurely could do harm to their brain. It meant children were not able to accomplish works in an orderly manner.Children aged under-seven years old are supposed to be able to draw straight line, line, draw simple shapes and so on.

Unfortunately, in this current modern society, children start to learn counting while they are not necessarily able yet to draw straight line.Ahmad added the parents’ failure to understand was rooted on how they measured their children’s achievements which still focused on mathematics and academic-related things and neglected non-academic achievements. While calistung can be introduced to early-aged children, it should not be used to evaluate achievements.Posted in Tagged.

Posted inTagged.

Kompas, page 6(Editorial)Strong criticism over the process of early childhood education appeared this week in Jakarta. It criticized the inclusion of reading, writing and counting into learning materials since it did not only burden early-aged children (0 -6 year-old children) who were still in their playing ages but also oppress the children. This oppressive education was explored at a discussion titled “Holistic and Integrated Early Childhood Education (PAUD): Prospects and Challenges” held by Education Sector Analytical and Capacity Development Partnership, among others by questioning the learning of reading and counting at PAUD.The oppressive education is surely misleading since it can undermine and do harm to child development. Child period is supposed to be beautiful and pleasant, among others by enjoying freedom to play. Furthermore, playing -aside from a productive being- is one human nature.

Children, compatible with their growth, need games.Children are oppressed by the desire of their parents who deem PAUD quality is measured by its students’ competency to read, write and count. In fact, repression in the education sector had been frequently highlighted.School and university students in Indonesia are deemed overwhelmed by various subjects and courses that emphasize memorizing instead of reflective, critical and dialogic thinking. Teachers cannot be completely blamed for this situation since they are required to comply with curriculums developed by the government. There is no assurance the curriculums are relevant with education needs.Indonesia’s education challenges does not only relate to its process but also indeed to its results. The competency of Indonesian education graduates to accelerate the nation’s progress, as evident in many countries, remains questionable.Posted inTagged.

Tanpa terkecuali, memerhatikan perkembangan psikologi anak.Posted inTagged. Media Indonesia, page 12Director General of Early Childhood Education and Public Education Ministry of Education and Culture (Kemendikbud) Harris Iskandar asserted the early childhood (PAUD) education teaching system that forces children to read and count is considered in violation of the rules. In Permendikbud No 137/2014 on PAUD National Standard, it mentions the learning process in PAUD program should be appropriate to the child’s age.Harris said, there is actually no ban on teaching children to read in PAUD, but if it is done with inappropriate approach could be considered in violation. According to Harris, teaching children in early childhood should be conducted in an enjoyable way such as playing.

This is believed to stimulate children’s brain growth. However, explained Harris, the fact is, not all PAUD institutions use such method of approach. Against such practices, he claimed there would not be any sanction imposed in any form whatsoever. Rather than imposing sanctions, it is more appropriate for such institutions to be given guidance to improve PAUD service quality which is still deemed still low.PAUD observer Kasandra Putranto emphasized that the government could provide special training for the sake of improving PAUD education capacity in Indonesia.
